How can TikTok be used for Google SEO?
Is it worthwhile restaurants investing in TikTok videos to help improve their SEO performance?
We were recently searching on Google for an “authentic Italian restaurant near me” and to our surprise, amidst the list of restaurants – there were TikTok videos featured at the top of Google.
Now here’s the question – even if our customers aren’t on TikTok, should restaurants be investing in the platform to boost their Google and SEO performance?
Why TikTok?
TikTok has been gaining immense popularity in recent years, and the app’s influence is now being felt beyond the realm of social media. According to Google’s Senior Vice President, 40% of young people go to TikTok or Instagram when looking for a place to eat instead of Google Maps or Search (Tech Crunch).
The rise of TikTok has significant opportunities for businesses and marketers, as the app presents new opportunities for reaching younger audiences and driving engagement. To capitalise on this trend, restaurants may consider incorporating TikTok into their social media marketing strategies or creating content specifically for the platform.
Does being on TikTok benefit Google?
Even though TikTok and Google are not directly linked, TikTok’s popularity can still have an indirect positive effect on Google. For instance, TikTok users frequently share links to their videos on other social media platforms leading to increased traffic for TikTok’s website.
In addition, many people use Google to search for TikTok videos or specific content creators, which could boost Google’s search volume and generate more search queries.
Does TikTok help your SEO performance?
TikTok does not have a direct impact on SEO, as search engines like Google do not index the videos on the platform. Nonetheless, there are ways in which TikTok can influence SEO indirectly.
Backlinks: By producing TikTok videos that link back to your website, you can create backlinks that increase your website’s authority, leading to better search engine rankings.
Social Signals: Social signals such as likes, shares, and comments can indirectly impact SEO. If your videos get significant engagement, search engines may perceive your content as popular and valuable, potentially improving your rankings.
Brand Awareness: Using TikTok to promote your brand can raise its visibility and recognition. This could lead to increased visibility on search engines like Google, making your website and social media profiles more discoverable to users.
How do TikTok videos land on Google?
Since TikTok does not permit search engines to scan and index its content, TikTok videos do not show up in Google search results. However, there are a few indirect methods by which TikTok movies can show up in Google search results:
User-generated material: If a TikTok video is posted to a website or blog, it may show up in Google search results as a component of that page’s content. In this scenario, Google would index the page that the video is on rather than the video itself.
Social media profiles: Your videos may show up in search results when someone searches for your name or brand if you link your profile to your website or social network accounts.
Hashtags: Including relevant and trending hashtags can help you show up on TikTok’s search results. Google may send users to the website where they may watch the video if they search for that hashtag.
Is TikTok a trusted Search Engine?
In the conventional sense, TikTok is not a trustworthy search engine. While it does feature a search function that enables users to look for content and producers on the site, its main goal is to help people locate videos or artists on the network rather than offering results like a traditional search engine.
The information on TikTok is also user-generated, hence the information’s accuracy and dependability may vary. Instead, rather than offering trustworthy information on a wide range of topics, this channel is largely used for fun and sharing quick videos.
